Rincón de la Vieja Volcano / The Legend
According to a native legend, the chief of the Curubandé tribe had a daughter, a princess named Curubandá, who fell in love with Prince Mixcoac, son of the chief of the enemy tribe. The princess's father ended the prince's life by throwing him into the crater of an active volcano, as their love was forbidden.
La Leona Waterfall
The waterfall acquired the name La Leona (The Lioness) during the time when our more recent ancestors settled in the area and began raising cattle. As the local community grew, the natural habitat of the big cats shrank. Inevitably, these big cats occasionally killed some cattle, resulting in people actively hunting them. Many local landmarks are still called La Leona, in honor of the big cats that were once common in the area, such as trails, farms, pools, and the beautiful La Leona waterfall.

Location
Finca Don Rafa is located in Curubandé, Liberia, Guanacaste. From Liberia, take the Inter-American Highway 5 km north and turn right onto the exit leading to Rincón de la Vieja National Park. After driving 8 km on this road, you will find our information center on the right, across from the Mixcuac Bar and Restaurant. Here, we will provide you with any additional information you may need. This is also our meeting point should you require transportation to the farm. The information center parking lot is secure. From the Mixcuac Bar, continue along the road for another 2 km, passing through the center of Curubandé. Approximately 200 m past the church, turn left onto the dirt road directly across from Tiquicia Lodge. Follow this dirt road for 1 km and at the end, turn left again towards the wooded area of Finca Don Rafa. After about 200 m, you will arrive at the adventure center where our staff will welcome you.
